Engagement Ring - for the male
Now I have VERY recently gotten engaged, on the 20th of September, and my fiance has been hassling me ever since to get him an engagement ring. The first time he mentioned it, I looked at him weird, said WTF! and asked if he was sure he liked women. I looked at me funny and assured me he does. Lol. So I told him if he wanted more jewellery he didn’t need to lie to get it, he could just go buy it. However, he is adamant that men are now getting engagement rings aswell. I questioned how he knew this, since he is a 100kg+, white guy, covered in tattoos, with a shaved head, who drives a truck. He assured me he heard it from Ray Hadley on 2GB (AM talkback radio for those of you who stick to FM like I do).
Apparently, the male engagement ring has become a new phenomenon which is becoming increasingly common. It works the same as a female engagement ring, but not as blingy. (Scott claims he does not want something big and chunky with lots of diamonds, but i’m not so sure). The purpose of the male engagement ring, again this is according to Scott, is that it shows people that they are unavailable and also gets the men used to wearing a ring on their left hand.
Personally, I don’t recommend assuming your guy will want an engagement ring, but it’s definitely something we should be considering, rather than just worrying about our own bling. At this point, Scott does not have an engagement ring, as we cannot agree on what we both like (I told him a Harley Davidson ring is NOT an engagement ring, but he disagrees..surprise surprise). So currently, our shopping for his ring is a work in progress..but I just thought I would bring this concept to the attention of the wider spectrum. Definitely food for thought.
Next: the proposal….

Honestly I don’t see anything wrong with a man having an engagement ring. It gets the man used to the committment and wearing an actual ring which says I belong to only one person.
It doesn’t have to be a band, but being that you are getting maried you probably want to cut down on cost, so I suggest going to an online site such as www.Bidz.com under the men’s jewlery section. it is basically like ebay but straight auctioning and I have seen people getting awesome platinum rings for as little as $3.00 !
So i say, if he wants it, get it for him and NO, sorry but a harley ring is NOT an engagement ring.
